User Guide - Expedited Account

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? To apply you must be a researcher or educator at a U.S. institution or an NPACI staff member. Generally, the guidelines outlined in the current NSF Grant Proposal Guide apply. Please note:

  • A postdoc is eligible to serve as a principal investigator (PI).
  • If your institution is not a university or a 2- or 4-year college, special rules may apply.
  • A PI may not be a high school, undergraduate, or graduate student; a qualified advisor must serve in this capacity.

Instructions for researchers and educators

If you are eligible and do not have an NPACI (i.e., ux*) account,  you may submit a full proposal for peer review (for more information see Allocations); however, these are granted only twice a year. For quicker access to the NPACI grid, you will need to submit an expedited account allocation request.   A proposal must be attached to the request in one of the accepted accepted formats: PDF, HTML, Microsoft Word, or Postscript.  Within the proposal, mention how your project will make use of the NPACI Grid.

Requests for expedited awards may be submitted at any time at POPS (https://pops-submit.paci.org/), the PACI Online Proposal System.  Once you have authenticated within the POPS system, use the following information to guide you through the submission process:

  • NPACI Proposal Type: new
  • Service Unit's Range Selection: 0-10000
  • Upcoming Board Type Meetings: SAC-SDSC (Small Allocations Committee for NPACI)
  • Enter required PI information
  • (Optional) Enter Co-PI information
  • Enter proposal information
  • Within Available Resources, select:
    • U of Michigan AMD Linux Cluster, 500 SU's, and your memory requirements
    • U of Texas IBM Power4 - 500 SU's
    • SDSC IBM Blue Horizon - 1000 SU's
  • Upload your proposal
  • Submit
